“ENGRAVED BY [Butler & Carpenter] PHILADELPHIA” on one line with “Plate No.” on the line below.
This was usually followed by the plate number and usually a letter, but does occur without a plate number.
The words “Butler & Carpenter” are in white on a colored tablet, other parts of the imprint are in color.
This was the most common imprint used on the first issue of revenue stamps.

Similar to imprint F, but with a serial letter or pair of letters in solid block color between the imprint and plate number.
Used on the top positions of plates 483-7, 490-4 and 497-723 (except 552) of the 1879 issue, and on top and bottom positions
of plates 1-20, 26-71, 74-269 of the 1890 issue.
