Imprint B3 lined out and “Bu. E. & P.” added. Used for printing of #R152 and #R18 by the Bureau after they took over Revenue stamp production.

“ENGRAVED BY JOS. R. CARPENTER PHILADELPHAI” on one line, with plate numbers preceding (vignette) and following (frame) the imprint.
The words “JOS. R. CARPENTER” are in white on a colored tablet; other parts of the imprint are in color. The words “PATENT JULY 13TH 1869”
are on a line below the imprint. Used on the second, third and fourth issues of Documentary stamps and the 1871-4 Proprietary stamps.
The $200 and $500 plates have only the imprint without plate numbers.

Similar to Imprint R2, but without “Plate No.” on the second line. Used for first issue revenue plates with Imprint R1a
that were reentered in 1869 or later or made after that date. Normally found without a plate number.

Similar to Imprint R1, the colored tablet reading [Butler & Carpenter] is replaced with one reading [Jos. R. Carpenter].
Used on plates of the first revenue issue with imprint R1 that were reentered in 1869 or later.

R1a

Same first line as Imprint R1, but no “Plate No.” Usually not accompanied by a plate number. Used on the first issue of revenue stamps.
