Last Day of Sale
1) the day a <#stamp> is removed from sale by the <#usps=Postal Service>. 2) a <#slogancancel-gen=slogan cancellation> applied to stamps on the last day of sale. A "Last Day of Sale" cancellation was used for the first time on March 16, 1997.
Skiving
a method of <#stamp> separation in which thin layers of paper are removed by grinding instead of cutting or punching. The result resembles <#perf=perforations>.
Mail Use Stamps
term used by the <#usps=United States Postal Service> for stamps intended for use on mail.
Die Essay
a print made from a <#die> that has not yet been completely engraved, generally made to check the phases of engraving, also known as a <#progproof=progressive die proof>.
